Summer Reading

Summer Reading 2012
Monday, June 11th - Saturday, July 21st
Registration begins on Friday, May 25th

Summer Reading Clubs

The Bridgeview Library offers three reading clubs for youth this summer. Remember, our reading clubs are FREE and open to all. You do not need a library card to participate. Parents can check with the Reference Department to register for the adult summer reading program.

Caterpillar Club: Open to children ages birth-4 years old, this program focuses on developing important early literacy skills in young children. In June and July, complete early literacy activities with your child to win a prize. This program is brand-new this year!

Dream Big - Read: For kids entering grades K-6, read 100 minutes a week and complete an additional activity to win a weekly prize and a ticket for our grand prize raffle at the end of the summer.

Own the Night: Teens entering grades 7-12 set their own goals and keep track of the titles they read in order to win weekly prizes and a ticket for our grand prize raffle.

Special Events

Monday, June 11th-Tuesday, June 12th: Scholastic Book Fair! There will be lots of popular titles to choose from. Fair hours will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Monday and 12-8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monday, June 11th: Summer Reading Kick-Off Party! The fun begins at 5 p.m. with stories and a craft. Then head downstairs for a presentation from Incredible Bats - you'll even get to meet some live Egyptian fruit bats! No registration is required for this event.

Saturday, June 30th: Paddy Lynn Storyacting returns to the Bridgeview Public Library. Paddy Lynn tells exciting, interactive stories - and she chooses volunteers from the audience to help her! The show starts at 2 p.m. No registration is required, but please arrive early to make sure you get a spot!

Thursday, July 19th: Kids who participate in the Summer Reading Club can join us for our annual Haunted Trails Pizza Party. Kids will receive free pizza and soda, and adults pay just $2. We’ll hold a raffle and then families are free to explore on their own. No transportation is provided. Parents MUST attend with their children. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. at 7759 S. Harlem Avenue in Burbank.

Weekly Programs

Check our calendar for a complete schedule of weekly programs. We have lots of activities for kids ages birth-18!

Please keep in mind:
- Age limits for summer programs are absolute.
- Please arrive on time for programs. If you arrive more than 5 minutes after a program's published start time, your spot may be given to a child on the waiting list. If you are running late, please call the library so we can hold your child's spot. No one will be admitted to programs more than 15 minutes after the published start time.
- Summer programs fill up quickly. We recommend registering for programs on the first available day to ensure availability.
- Children under age 8 must be attended by a caregiver (age 14 or older) at all times. If a child under age 8 is in a program, the caregiver must remain in the building.

You can register for the first week of programs starting on May 25th. After that, you will be able to register for programs the week before they happen:
Week 2 registration begins June 11th
Week 3 registration begins June 18th
Week 4 registration begins June 25th
Week 5 registration begins July 2nd
Week 6 registration begins July 9th

You may register in person or over the phone. For each child, we need a first and last name, age, grade (for the fall), and phone number.
